FAQs
What is the turnaround time?
That really depends on the case and how much homework has been done before the representation begins. Alisha likes to ask her clients first if they wish to do the work to gather information she may need to provide appropriate legal advice. The more prepared the client, the quicker the answers and advice can come.
How long has she been in practice?
Alisha has been practicing in ND and MN over 30 years
Does she work on a reduced fee program?
Alisha believes that everyone deserves competent legal representation. She takes on reduced fee cases from time to time to help people who would not otherwise have representation in family law matters.
Why do I need an initial consultation?
Alisha prefers to meet with people first to decide if representation is a good fit for both of you. Hiring an attorney during a life changing event should be done thoughtfully. Some firms just use the same retainer but Alisha does not. She wants to find out what your needs are, and figure out if she can meet your goals before setting the fee. So the initial consultation is a risk-free way to get some questions answered.
Where are you located?
We have two offices. The main office is in Fargo on Main Avenue, on the way to historic downtown. The second office is in Wishek, and is south of Jamestown about 60 miles. Alisha works in Wishek on Fridays.
Does she handle cases in different counties?
Yes, within reason. Depending upon the distance, if representation can be economically accomplished using ZOOM, that can be discussed during the initial consultation.
What do you do with my original paperwork?
We return all original documents to you as soon as we have electronic copies stored securely in our database. We do not store client documents in the Cloud.
How much is a retainer for divorce?
That depends upon your goals and anticipated complexity of your case. Alisha handles amicable matters as well as complicated litigated cases. All cases are billed at her hourly rate, unless otherwise agreed to in advance of the representation.
How much does Alisha charge?
Alisha’s hourly rate is at least $360 per hour. Other fees may be charged as agreed upon in advance in writing.
Is collaborative divorce more expensive?
Not usually, but again the complexity of the case, and the length of time the case requires are factors that affect the bottom line.
Does Alisha take cases on a Limited Representation basis?
From time to time, Yes. If you only wish for representation to assist with drafting documents, or attending a mediation session, these arrangements can be made in advance of the retainer being set.
What are Alisha’s fees for mediation?
Alisha charges her regular hourly rate for mediations, and scheduled at a minimum 4 hours. Retainers are expected to be paid in advance, and both parents will receive an orientation with Alisha to ask questions about the process, prior to scheduling the mediation session. Attorneys are welcome to attend mediation, at the parents’ options.
Will anything be sent to my spouse without my knowledge?
We never send anything to the other party in a case without prior approval. If you have a consultation with Alisha, all information gathered is completely confidential.
